- AutoClock 1.3.1 — © 1991-92, Jean-Pierre Gachen.
- ---------------
-
- AutoClock is an application and a system extension that keeps your Macintosh's
- clock right. As a matter of fact, this clock has the tendency to deviate from
- the standard time every day, which can accumulate to minutes or dozens of
- minutes after one year.
-
- The AutoClock application allows you to:
- - set the clock by calling a time server in Washington D.C., if you have a
- modem,
- - set the clock manually from an accurate source (for exemple a vocal time
- server),
- - display a logbook of every clock changes that occurs on your Macintosh,
- whether they are done with AutoClock, or with another application (the
- General control panel, or the Clock desk accessroy for example),
- - compute the mean clock deviation of the Macintosh's clock for a 24-hour
- period, using data recorded in the logbook,
- - display the date and time in almost any country of the world.
-
- The system extension AutoClock Extension can:
- - periodically open the AutoClock application according to your schedule, to
- perform an automatic clock adjustment by calling the time server, without
- any user intervention,
- - keep the Macintosh's clock continually right, by adjusting it using the
- computed mean clock deviation,
- - detect any clock changes done by any other programs, and record them in the
- application's logbook.

-
- Compatibility
- -------------
-
- The AutoClock application and AutoClock Extension work on any Macintosh, with
- System 6.0.5 or later, including system 7.0. AutoClock is 32-bit clean, and has
- balloon help if used with System 7.0.
-
- To set clock by calling the time server, AutoClock needs 1200-bps Hayes
- compatible modem (Bell 212A standard). Extra serial ports compatible with the
- Communication Toolbox are recognized.

- Changes in version 1.3.1
- ------------------------
-
- Bug fixes:
- - Fixes a bug causing a bomb in few circumstances, after a failed connection.
- - Fixes a bug causing an invalid adjustement of several hours in few
- circumstances, instead of a single second, when using the continuous
- adjustement feature.
- - Fixes a bug causing a bomb after displaying consecutive error messages in
- alert windows.
- - If a connection must occur at startup, AutoClock will now wait for one
- after the Finder appearance for proceeding, to avoid some incompatibilities.
- - Fixes bug that prevent the AutoClock extension to work correctly with
- System 6.0.x.
- - Some circumstances that caused the appearance of the cross over the
- AutoClock icon at startup have been eliminated.
- - Fixes inversion of messages "...clock is slow/fast" after connection.
- - Fixes cosmetic problems when display dates in the logbook window, specially
- when using foreign formats like German.
- - The X1 Hayes command is no longer necessary with some modems sending
- RINGING before connecting.
- - Fixes UTC offsets for Malaysia and Nepal (Asia), and Newfoundland (Canada).
- - Divides 15 states in U.S. and Canada that are split into two time zones.
- - plus other minor bug fixes...

- Changes in version 1.3
- ----------------------
-
- New features:
- - Can now set clock manually (using a local time server, or you watch for
- example), allowing those without modem to use the continuous clock
- adjustment feature to keep their Macintosh's clock right.
- - Added a security that cancels continuous adjustment if this adjustment is
- too big, that is, probably wrong.
- - If you change the "Daylight Saving Time" option in the "Loaction" dialog
- box, AutoClock now asks if it must adjust the clock (by adding or
- subtracting one hour).
- - "AutoClock Extension" is now fully compatible with Systems 6.0.5 to 6.0.8,
- (and System 7.0), allowing scheduled clock adjustment and continuous
- adjustment with these systems.
-
- Bug fixes:
- - HandOff II incompatibility fixed.
- - Screen-savers (AfterDark, DarkSide, ScreenLocker) incompatibility fixed.
- - Fixes several bugs with multi-monitor configurations.
- - Fixes a bug that invalidated the mean clock deviation when switching
- Daylight Saving Time ON or OFF.
- - plus other minor bug fixes...
-

-
- Changes in version 1.2
- ----------------------
-
- New features:
- - Adjusts continually the clock using its mean deviation, allowing to save
- calls to the time server (requires system 7).
- - Records in the logbook every external clock change (with Clock DA, or
- General control panel for example) (requires system 7).
- - Recognize extra serial ports which are compatible with the Communication
- Toolbox (for example: QuadraLink from Applied Engineering) (requires
- system 7).
-
- Bug fixes:
- - With multi-monitor configurations, you can now move a window in any monitor.
- - Fixes an incompatibility of AutoClock extension with some extensions (for
- example Desktop Reset from Salient Software).
- - Fixes UTC offset for Alaska: it's UTC-9 instead of UTC-10.
- - plus other minor bug fixes...
